Year-over-Year 100 Percent Attendance Increase Reflects Impact of Convenience Technology for ASU Employees

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.- April 21st 2010 – Ushering in a new era in mobile health engagement, Allviant Corporation announced today that its CarePass™ solution generated impressive results in engaging Arizona State University (ASU) employees in actively participating in various health and wellness initiatives. In less than four months of using the convenient technology, ASU reports a 100 percent increase in attendance at employee preventive screenings at ASU.

While CarePass helped to double attendance for general health screenings for blood glucose, blood pressure, full lipid panel, body composition, bone density and hearing screenings, it boosted attendance for diet and fitness programs at ASU by 85 percent – the categories of engagement most commonly attributed to changes in lifestyle that drive down the cost of care. CarePass has become the preferred means of registering for wellness classes, with nearly 2/3 of all registrations done via CarePass. CarePass also allows consumers to control their benefits and personal health service communications and transactions by aggregating and delivering information securely—via phone, e-mail, or text messaging based on individual preference. Patent-pending technology allows CarePass to uniquely combine relevant pieces of information together in those communications to consumers who then are able to take meaningful action.

According to ASU statistics, twenty-five percent more females than males are using CarePass, reflecting research showing that women make the majority of healthcare decisions for their families.

According to Kevin Salcido, ASU’s chief human resources officer, “Not only are we thrilled that our preventive health programs have been so heavily attended due to CarePass, but we’re pleased to be able to offer our employees a benefit that is low cost, but delivers high value. That’s especially important during these tough economic times when employees are often asked to sacrifice. Instead, with CarePass, they’ve been able to gain a great benefit. Giving our employees a tool like CarePass helps them take positive proactive health action. Plus, it is easy to use, is customized to their preferences and provides just the right number of reminders. It has significantly enhanced our ability to communicate health and wellness information, and as a result, we will expand use of CarePass to other communication of benefits and human resources information.”

“In only four months, with little promotion and no incentives, 21% of ASU Tempe campus employees have signed up to use our technology-enabled service – a testament to the powerful capabilities we put in the hands of CarePass users,” said Lilian Myers, Allviant’s CEO. “As the largest university in the country, ASU leads the way in demonstrating how large employers can empower a workforce to take charge of their own health management through innovations like CarePass. Their dramatic results prove that implementing next generation employee engagement tools doesn’t have to take months or years and that doing it well stimulates engagement and uptake of employer-sponsored prevention and wellness programs, while helping employees quickly and easily manage their own health and benefits world. We couldn’t be more pleased by the confidence and trust ASU has placed in us to empower their employees with the information they need, where and when they need it. We look forward to expanding upon the program’s success.”

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Apr. 7th 2010 – Allviant Corporation, the developer of the CarePass™ technology-enabled service for the consumers of health benefits and their employers, today announced that CEO Lilian Myers has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics (The Center) at Arizona State University . The Center’s mission is to improve ethical awareness and decision-making across the community, state and nation, starting with at the university campus.

“We are delighted to welcome Lilian to the board,” said Peter A. French, Ph.D., the Center’s Director. “Her 20-plus years of business perspective – particularly as it relates to consumers of healthcare – will prove invaluable in our continuing effort to take on the hard ethical issues of the day and help make them relevant to decision-making for individuals, organizations and governing bodies now and in the future. Her counsel and expertise will be crucial to the success of many of the projects, especially those related to healthcare issues, on which the Center and its Lincoln Professors are and will be engaged.”

“I am honored to serve on the board and look forward to working with the Center’s directors, professors and other board members to advance the importance of social responsibility, moral leadership and values in everyday life,” said Myers. “The recent ethical and fiduciary lapses by the country’s leading financial institutions underscore the critical role of critical and sound thinking in instilling integrity, character and sense of morality in industry and innovation.”

Myers is a co-founder of Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Allviant, which empowers consumers to control how they interact and connect with benefits and healthcare service providers. In her role as CEO of Allviant, Myers is responsible for strategic and operational leadership.

Before joining Allviant, she was associate director of the University of Central Florida Venture Lab , a leading economic development force in Central Florida for moving local innovations from idea to operations, funding and into the market.

She served as vice president of marketing and corporate development at Channel Intelligence, an online retail technology vendor. In 1999, Myers co-founded eGlobal Strategies, where she worked with numerous start-ups and large companies to identify market opportunities, develop go-to-market strategies and start new businesses.

Myers co-founded Avio, which delivered one of the first integrated practice information systems for large physician groups to include an electronic medical record technology. She led startup and growth of products, marketing, sales and account management, and was instrumental in raising capital from both strategic and venture sources.

Myers also was a member of a team at Microsoft that was responsible for driving enterprise Windows and BackOffice adoption through new product development partnerships with visionary vertical software companies.

About The Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics

The Lincoln Center For Applied Ethics is dedicated to emphasizing the essential role that morals and values play in the achievements and successes of individuals and organizations. Its mission is to improve the ethical awareness and understanding, and thereby the ethical decision-making and behavior of the university community and society at large. The Center’s goal is to create a university and community ethical culture by sponsoring, organizing and conducting an array of activities, ranging from course development to conferences to research, on ethics issues that occur in specific fields and professions, as well as those of pressing general importance in the state, the region, the nation and the global community. The Center achieves this purpose primarily by creating opportunities, supporting projects and developing the capabilities of selected ASU faculty members (Lincoln Professors) to engage in applied ethics teaching, scholarship and service activities in various disciplines and professions across the university and the broader community.

WASHINGTON — February 4, 2010 — Dossia Chairman Mike Critelli, a recognized innovator in health benefits and workforce wellness, introduced Allviant Corporation’s CarePass™ technology at the Center for Health Value Innovation (CHVI) event on February 2 in Washington, D.C.

Critelli touted CarePass’ ability to deliver a new level of convenience that breaks down the barriers consumers face in trying to manage their healthcare. CarePass enables consumers to control their personal health service communications and transactions by aggregating and delivering context-relevant information securely — via phone, e-mail or text messaging — depending on their preference. Additionally, CarePass connects a network of service providers such as health savings vendors, portals, personal health records (PHRs), content sites, nurse call services, physicians and dentists. With the click of a button, CarePass members can schedule and confirm appointments, receive alerts or prescription reminders and verify deductibles or HSA balances.

“CarePass really helps organizations realize the full value of the benefits they work so hard to deliver to their employees and their families because it offers a practical, real-world method of understanding and managing those benefits,” states Critelli.

According to Lilian Myers, CEO of Allviant, “Consumer health engagement is the newest and biggest challenge. American companies spent an average of $329 per employee on cash incentives to drive engagement in 2008 — up from $192 the year prior. Human behavior dictates that lasting engagement is a result of sense of control and relevance. CarePass was specifically designed to answer those issues.”

CarePass is currently being used at Arizona State University (ASU) to manage 175 wellness programs and events. The two-way CarePass communication technology allows participants to select the type of health and wellness information they want to receive, such as pregnancy- or asthma-related information, smoking cessation or women’s health. In a four-month period with only two email campaigns, ASU achieved a 17.4% CarePass adoption rate of the benefits eligible employees on the main campus. Those enrolled are receiving notifications for ASU Employee Wellness events and programs.

“This is an impressive adoption rate considering that ASU does not provide incentives for wellness programs or for enrollment in CarePass. This means that 17% enrolled because of a genuine interest in having both the control (CarePass) and the information,” explains Myers.

Americans over 15 years of age spend 847 million hours each year waiting for medical services.* This lost productivity can be avoided with CarePass, which helps connect consumers and their physicians’ office in real time through a virtual waiting room.

The CarePass Virtual Waiting Room is being used at ASU student clinics today. This fall it was used to notify students of flu and H1N1 vaccine availability, appointment reminders, prevention alerts and mobile appointment check-in. This eliminated staff time typically required on the phone to confirm appointments and decreased no-shows.

“Consumers have become accustomed to this level of technology-enabled convenience in banking — why shouldn’t they have it for healthcare?” states Myers. “By delivering health information to busy consumers on the go, individuals gain unprecedented control over their health and wellness ecosystem. CarePass just makes sense for real people today.”
